Dear Wild Finca Community, We had some sad news over the weekend…we learnt that our resident Barn Owl had been predated. First indication was a large white patch below his box, and on arrival to the site we realised that the white was an explosion of feathers. All signs led to us determining that the predator would have been avian (all feathers had been plucked, not chewed like a fox or badger might do). Most likely an Eagle Owl (who we heard calling all Winter in the woods below us) or a Goshawk (who we regularly see doing flybys of Wild Finca). It was quite upsetting, this particular Barn Owl had taken to entering our downstairs barn and feasting on the rodents, evident from the pellets the boys have been finding there. But to know that we have such an impressive array of birdlife makes it bittersweet. Over on our website we’ve just published our second blog, which dives into the captivating world of wildlife at Wild Finca: Wildlife Wonders at Wild Finca: Exploring the Ecosystem Through Recording and Observation. Understanding the diverse species that thrive within our ecosystem provides valuable insights into the delicate balance of nature and helps us determine our next steps on the land. Dear Wild Finca Community, The Egyptian Vultures have returned! I (Katie) saw my first a few weeks ago, soaring over Roan's school, but until yesterday Luke still hadn't seen one, and considering he is outside most hours of the day we were starting to get worried. Then, with the warm weather, a whole host of avian life took to the skies and we enjoyed watching them all yesterday morning, whilst taking down some fencing. And then, not one but a pair of Egyptian Vulture appeared and lazily...
